Sweet & Sentimental First Look Ideas (Beyond Just the Bride & Groom!)

When most people think of a “first look,” they picture the moment a groom sees his bride for the first time before the ceremony. And while that’s such a meaningful and beautiful tradition, there are so many other special first look moments you can include in your wedding day timeline that are just as emotional (and make for the most heartwarming photos!).

Here are a few of my favorite alternative first look ideas:

First Look with Your Parents
Get the tissues! There’s something incredibly moving about a mother hugging her son before he gets married. Or a father seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time. Those moments are often filled with tears, tight hugs, and a lifetime of love and memories wrapped into one. These are the photos that always get me.

First Look with Your Bridesmaids
This one is always a blast! Whether your girls have seen the dress or not, there’s just something special about the big reveal once hair and makeup are done and you’re fully ready. The excitement, the squeals, the gasps—it’s such a fun way to kick off the day with your best friends.

First Look with Your Siblings
Your siblings have probably been through it all with you—childhood memories, late-night talks, and all the wedding planning leading up to this moment. A first look with your brother or sister is a beautiful way to honor that bond and grab a few sweet shots together before the day gets rolling.

First Look with Your Dog (yes, really!)
If your pup is your baby, don’t leave them out! Some couples include their dogs in the getting-ready photos or even walk them down the aisle. A sweet moment where your dog gets to “see you” in your wedding dress is as adorable as it sounds!

These thoughtful, heartfelt parts of the day often become the most treasured images. You don’t have to rush through your wedding day. Let’s slow down and make room for the moments that matter most. They add so much depth to your story and day. And honestly, they’re often some of the most treasured photos in your gallery!
